We've been using OL750WI Weatherproof Gloss (Inkjet Only) for almost a year now. As time passed, we started to notice slight yellowing of our labels but thought nothing of it. But now, things we have labeled or printed back in October are unusable. The sun doesn't hit the labels directly but they are in a well lit room. Even labels Ive printed for later use that I have filed away have oxidized.

I'm wondering if anyone has had the same issues?

Im also wondering if the "white gloss" would be any different than the weatherproof. If it helps, we have an EPSON ET-8550 Series printer.

I’m so sorry to hear about the discoloration you’re seeing with the weatherproof labels. Weatherproof materials for inkjet printing have a special topcoat that absorbs ink and protects against moisture, but their absorbent nature can make them susceptible to environmental factors. This may not be noticeable unless it's next to a label that is not experiencing any discoloration. Exposure to things such as smoke, burning candles, and vapors, has been known to cause similar issues.

With this in mind, you may want to consider sealing or laminating the printed labels. Clear protectant sprays, like those from Krylon, can effectively seal and protect artwork, and these can be found online or at local craft stores. Applying a clear glossy label on top is another option for added durability. More details are available in the "Add Durability" section of the guide linked below:

Can you provide some specifics about the application and environment?

I appreciate the reply. I checked out the link and read the article. It's helpful but it adds another step that would require either more money or more time, depending. But I will consider trying out the spray.

These are for candles (to sell - not for personal use) They are stored in a room that mostly stays cold and has bright indirect light in the mornings as the only window faces northeast. The labels I have printed for future use are in a rack on a bottom shelf.

The only thing I can think of is somehow, when we are making the candles in the same room, the heat/fumes affect them over time? Im wondering if using the non weatherproof labels would help avoid that issue? Im considering trying the standard white gloss but unsure.

I understand your concerns about the additional steps and costs involved. Regarding the environment, the heat and fumes (along with smoke and vapors), can significantly impact these highly absorbent inkjet materials.

I'm happy to send samples of White Gloss Inkjet (WG) for you to test. While the yellowing is more commonly associated with the film materials, it may be beneficial for you to test the white gloss paper with the overcoat spray as well.
