When using a black background and adding a picture, a white "background" to the picture appears around the picture. Is there any way to crop this out?

The image that you have uploaded has a white background. You will need your image to have a transparent background if you don't want the white to show.

If you're uploading an image that includes a white background there would be no way to remove that white background within Maestro Label Designer at this time. To accomplish something like this you would need to use image editing software such as Adobe Photoshop to edit the photo prior to uploading it into Maestro Label Designer.

Another option would be to use an online editing tool to remove your white background from your image. Pixlr is an excellent photo editing tool. It is web based so there is nothing to download and it is free to use.

You can check it out at the link below:

http://apps.pixlr.com/editor/

It allows you to make a transparent background on an image. Here is a video on the topic.

I hope you find this information useful. If you should need any additional details please just let us know!
