I'm sorry to hear about the issues that you've encountered. Unfortunately, we don't offer a weatherproof material for inkjet printers with a more aggressive adhesive than our weatherproof gloss inkjet products. The weatherproof gloss inkjet has been tested thoroughly on a variety of different surfaces and container types and we've routinely seen excellent performance in terms of adhesion. With that being said, container type and environment can have an impact on adhesion and performance can differ based on these circumstances.
Can you tell us a little more about your application? What size are you cutting the labels down to? What type of containers are they being applied to? Are they being applied to curved surfaces? If so, do the labels wrap around the entirety of the container?
There are a couple of additional suggestions we can provide that have assisted customers facing adhesive issues in the past:
- The way you apply the labels can have a major impact on the permanence of the adhesion. The optimal application method is to place the center of the label first, and then apply force outwards equally until both edges have been laid down. This will reduce the amount of tension and make the edges of the labels less prone to popping up. Placing one edge down first and then wrapping around until the other edge is placed can introduce excessive amounts of tension that often to lead to the edges of the labels lifting. This method is especially effective for labeling curved containers and surfaces.
- Increase the surface area of the labels. Making your labels slightly larger or longer will allow for additional surface area of adhesive being placed down onto the surface that you're labeling. This is another effective method for labeling curved containers. If the container allows for it, wrapping your label all the way around so that there's a small amount of overlap can definitely help improve the permanence of adhesion as well.
- All of the adhesives that we offer are pressure sensitive, meaning that the pressure with which they're applied will factor into the permanence of adhesion. Make sure to apply a significant amount of pressure for the most permanent results. The adhesive bond typically grows stronger over time as well, so if you have the ability to let the containers sit for a day or two before they're used that should result in a more permanent application.
There are a couple of other materials that may provide a stronger adhesive than the weatherproof inkjet options, but only one of them is inkjet printable. Our
aggressive white matte is an uncoated white material that features a very strong all-temperature adhesive. This material is not glossy and is not graded for use in direct contact with moisture. The adhesive on this produce is designed for use with difficult, textured surfaces - often in industrial environments. It would likely adhere to your surfaces better, but would not provide the same type of print quality or water resistance compared to the weatherproof inkjet options
Beyond the aggressive white matte we also have a series of weatherproof materials for laser printers. Our
weatherproof vinyl probably offers the strongest bond of any sheeted product that we carry, but you'd definitely need a laser printer to print successfully on this material. It's important to note that this material features a matte finish, and not a glossy finish like the weatherproof gloss inkjet.
