Is anyone else having issues with the OL5030WI - Weatherproof Gloss (Inkjet Only) label sheet? - Apparently it prints great but when we stick the label on our candle jars, the bottom part of the label doesn't stick. It's so odd any very upsetting.

It's definitely not a debris problem because we wear gloves and clean the jars properly before sticking. It's been driving us crazy because the bottom part of the label rises up on its own and destroys the look of the Jars. Maybe we received a faulty batch but we are definitely sceptical of ordering more. :(

Any advise or recommendations please?

I'm sorry to hear about the issue that you're experiencing. I reviewed complaint reports for the weatherproof gloss inkjet material over the past year, and we haven't seen any widespread or recurring complaints related to adhesive failures. Based on your description of the problem, and how the bottom portion of the label seems to be the only area failing, it's certainly possible that you received a defective batch of material. I'd recommend contacting our customer service team by submitting a support ticket at the link below:

They'll be happy to send you some sample sheets from a new batch of material to determine if the issue was isolated to a defective batch. If the samples perform well, they can assist you with setting up a replacement order. If you experience the same issue with the sample sheets, then it's possible that there may be a compatibility issue between the weatherproof gloss inkjet material and the containers that you're using. In that scenario, they can assist you by picking up the remainder of your order and issuing a refund.

You mentioned cleaning the containers and applying the labels while wearing gloves, which is definitely good practice for avoiding adhesive-related issues. There is one other application technique that can definitely have a major impact, especially when labeling curved containers. Surface tension plays a significant role in adhesive performance on curved containers, and the manner in which a label is applied directly influences how much surface tension is present. If you're applying one edge of the label first, and then wrapping around the container, you're more than likely introducing excessive surface tension, which can lead to portions of the label lifting or buckling. If you haven't already, try applying the center of the label first, and then applying equal amounts of pressure outward from the center to the edges of the label. This application method will reduce the amount of surface tension present in the applied label, and should promote a stronger bond between the adhesive and the surface of your container.

I hope this helps. Please just use the support ticket link posted above to contact our customer service team for assistance. Once they know how the samples perform, they'll be more than happy to assist you with either a replacement or a refund.

Hi Josh,

Thanks - we will certainly reach out for some labels from the new batch - In terms of applying the labels to our jars, we actually start application by applying the center of the label first, and then applying equal amounts of pressure outward from the center to the edges of the label - but we do hope we received a defective batch as we have tried other labels and unfortunately the other labels do not match our brand look & feel.

We will submit a ticket and revert back - We do hope the issue is resolved.

Cheers.

I followed up with our customer service team yesterday and was able to review your account along with your previous support ticket and the images you attached. After reviewing the details, I'm confident that this isn't an adhesive issue, and is more than likely a compatibility issue between the size/shape/material of the label and the shape of the jar itself.

One quick test that would allow you to be certain would be to apply one of your printed labels to the jar upside down. If the adhesive at the bottom of the label is failing, then the buckling and lifting should now occur at the top of the jar rather than the bottom. If the lifting and buckling is still occurring at the bottom of the jar, rather than the top, that would be indicative of some kind of incompatibility between the shape or curvature of the jar and the standard, rectangular shape of the label.

We usually see this occur when a container is tapered or features some kind of unusual curvature. For a rectangular label to apply cleanly to a curved container, it needs to be a straight surface with no unusual shape or curvature. If the container is tapered, even slightly, that can cause wrinkling/buckling/lifting at the bottom of the label similar to what was displayed in the images attached to your support ticket. The easiest way to determine whether your container has any kind of tapering would be to measure the diameter across the top of your jar and the bottom of the jar. If the measured diameters are exactly the same, then the container isn't tapered. If the measured diameters are different, even by a small amount, then the container is tapered to some degree and standard rectangular labels won't fit properly.

If you determine that your container is tapered, we do have the ability to create custom sized labels for tapered containers. You can view our tapered label generator and instructions on receiving a custom quote at the link below:

Looking at your account, I see that you chose to place another small order rather than wait for samples. If you find that this order does resolve your issue, please let our customer service team know so they can work with you on a pick up and refund for the initial order. If the new order experiences the same issue, then it's likely due to the compatibility issues detailed above. In that case, our customer service team will be happy to arrange for a pick up and refund of both orders.

I apologize for any confusion. We're doing our best to understand your issue and assist in the best way possible. Please just let us know if you need any additional information in the meantime.
