Though I like these labels and have been using them for a year now I am having the following issues I require assistance with.

How do I keep these labels from curling in the box? Almost immediately upon receipt the labels start to curl up on the ends making them difficult to feed into the printer.
I store the labels in a dry room, room temperature, not hot.

Is the only way to feed these labels through the printer 'by hand one by one' as they slide against each other when more then a couple are in the feeder tray and the sheets go through the feeder unevenly as they get stuck together so become totally misaligned with the artwork.

I am finding the ground colour of the labels...white.....turns a dirty yellowish colour after a few months in storage.
My products are stored in boxes in a dry basement away from any moisture.

On a positive note I love how the labels take colour, are weatherproof at my farmers' markets and when stored in refrigeration. When I do need to remove labels from jars they come off very clean and easy.

I use an Epson ET-2800 inkjet printer.

Thank you

Joanne - I'm glad to hear that you're happy with the print quality and that the labels are holding up well to refrigeration. As far as storage to prevent curling, we do recommend the following:

  • Store your labels in a climate-controlled environment with low humidity.
  • Keep your labels away from any direct sources of heat.
  • Leave your label sheets in their original packaging for 24-48 hours before use. This will allow them to acclimate to their new environment.
  • Return your label sheets to the clamshell in between uses. Do not leave in the printer tray.
  • Lay your clamshell flat on the shelf.
If the label sheets are being stored in this manner and are still curling, you can attempt to reverse the curl by placing the sheets on a hard, flat surface and placing something heavy on top of them. You can also check out our article on How To Prevent Curling.

For feeding issues in your Epson printer, you can try adjusting the paper type setting to Photo or Presentation. The specialty paper types may require you to use the printer's rear paper tray, which would minimize the number of sheets you can stack. If they seem to stick together due to static, just try fanning through them first to minimize any electrostatic discharge that may have built up on the film-based sheets.

Regarding the discoloration of the Weatherproof Matte Inkjet (WJ), this material is absorbent, so environmental contaminants can cause slight discoloration or yellowing. This may not be noticeable unless it is placed next to a label that is not exhibiting any discoloration. Exposure to smoke, burning candles, and vapors, for example, has been known to cause similar issues. Keeping this in mind, using an overcoat spray or laminate can help seal the material and prevent it from absorbing contaminants.

I hope some of these recommendations help. Please let me know if anything else is needed.
